The Absolute Best Restaurants in Sheffield You Need to Visit

The Absolute Best Restaurants in Sheffield You Need to Visit

Sheffield used to be known just for steel and perhaps a decent pint of bitter. Those days are gone. Now, the city is a legitimate culinary heavyweight. We finally bagged a Michelin star in early 2026, and the independent scene in areas like Kelham Island and Nether Edge is frankly embarrassing for other northern cities.

If you are hungry in the Steel City, you have options. Proper options.

JÖRO

JÖRO

This is the big one. Luke French and Stacey Sherwood-French recently moved their operation to the Oughtibridge Paper Mill, and it paid off. They secured South Yorkshire's first-ever Michelin star in February 2026. The food is hyper-seasonal. Expect Asian influences mixed with local foraging. It is expensive, yes, but the quality is undeniable.

Bench

Bench

Located in Nether Edge, Bench is where the cool kids eat. It is a bistro and wine bar that focuses on open-fire cooking. The menu changes constantly. You might find sourdough with cultured butter alongside complex vegetable dishes that make you forget meat exists. The atmosphere is loud, cramped, and brilliant.

Ashoka

Ashoka

You cannot talk about Sheffield food without mentioning Ashoka on Ecclesall Road. They have been serving Taxi Driver Curries since 1967. It is small. It is intimate. The Caramelised Onion Kashmiri is a local legend. They don't do generic BIR fluff. This is proper, soul-warming food.

Domo

Based in the Eagle Works at Kelham Island, Domo brings Sardinia to South Yorkshire. The building is a stunning bit of industrial heritage. Go for the fennel sausage pasta or the massive sharing boards. On a sunny day, their terrace feels like a Mediterranean holiday, if you ignore the nearby chimney stacks.

Forbici

Forbici

New for spring 2026 in St Paul’s Square, Forbici is changing the pizza game. They focus on Neapolitan craft but with a scientific approach to fermentation. The dough is light, airy, and has that perfect char. It is a bit more energetic and polished than your average pizza joint. Great for a quick lunch that doesn't feel like a compromise.

Cornerstone @ Dyson Place

Cornerstone @ Dyson Place

Tucked away off Sharrow Vale Road, Cornerstone has become the go-to for contemporary dining. It is inside an old mission hall, so the space is huge and full of light. They do incredible small plates in the evening. Think tiger prawns or steak tartare that actually tastes of something. It is casual enough for a midweek bite but feels special enough for a date night.

Quick Fire Recommendations

  • No Name: A tiny bistro in Crookes. Bring your own wine. The food is high-end but the vibe is like eating in someone's living room.
  • Cambridge Street Collective: Europe’s largest purpose-built food hall. Perfect if your group cannot agree on what to eat. You can get anything from Palestinian chicken to sushi tacos here. The Guardian did a great piece on it recently.
  • Forge Bakehouse: Technically a bakery, but their cafe food is incredible. Their sourdough is the benchmark for the city.

Cambridge Street Collectiv

Sheffield's dining scene is fast. New spots open, old favourites evolve. Just make sure you book ahead. Most of these places are small and they fill up weeks in advance.

Go out. Eat well. Support the locals.
